HRSDC approves $4m project on Prior Learning and Recognition, March 2007

Nunavut Arctic College has received approval from HRSDC for a three year, $4 million project to develop culturally appropriate PLAR tools and test a holistic approach to portfolio development in the Adult Basic Education program throughout Nunavut. The Department of education and Nunavut Arctic College have been seeking the means to implement and promote the use of Prior Learning recognition in the territory. The Nunavut Adult Learning Strategy recognizes the importance of developing and using PLAR as a tool to help adult learners reach their academic and employment goals.

The project will run from March 2007 to December 2009.The College will be collaborating with the Department of Education, First Nations Technical Institute, and Gateways Project team from Athabasca University.
